To reveal a bit about my experiences, in a way I was disappointed cause my brothers came home from shows in 65-68 talking like you...seriously. I envied them. When I went though, it was nothing like that...I found that I had to bring the experience with me--the 20 some odd folks from bball teams and the cover band (we were very close, and those were the two most important things in our lives: the DEAD, ball, and well, of course, girls...they came along as well which was all for the better, except for the couple of serious incidents that req'd cooler heads to avoid one of them, shall we say, not getting back to their real daddy's by curfew [recall we were just in HS]).

So, that meant that we had our own little community, and it worked out great...but the few times I was with just my gal, it really didn't pan out so well. A run in with two Hells Angels Wannabes (they weren't wearing colors) was pretty scary in the Oak pk lot...now, admittedly, this was late--81, but still...and though I was big, she drew a great deal of attn (that sounds sooo bad, but it was part of the problem in a sense). It all ended okay, and I am relatively confident they weren't going to do much more than try to talk her into going home with them rather than me, but I was scared shitless for a while there...Now, that was the exceptional experience, of course, but it does add in to the whole scene not having been all it was cracked up to be in my book. I found that the scene had been somewhat eclipsed by those trying to parasitize it to a degree if that makes sense.

Thanks for the back and forth today, Flow; always appreciate your tolerance for my excesses...
